1,150,042. Sheet clamping; rotary duplicators. G. RITZERFELD. 9 March, 1967 [19 April, 1966], No. 11116/67. Heading B6C. A sheet-clamping arrangement in a rotary duplicating machine comprises two sheetclamping devices carried by the printing cylinder, each device having a clamp release member, and an actuating member movable between a first position for actuating one of the release members and a second position for actuating both release members. Fig. 2 illustrates a printing cylinder 1 having a set of clamping jaws 2-7; one clamp release member comprises a plate 28 carried on a shaft 8, which co-operates with jaws 4-7, the other clamp release member comprises a plate 29 carried on a sleeve 9 coaxial with shaft 8, this plate cooperating with jaws 2 and 3; the shaft 8 and sleeve 9 are individually rockable under the action of levers 26, 27 which carry rollers 24, 25. In use, an operating lever (17) (Fig. 2, not shown) causes actuating lever 23 to contact both rollers 24, 25 which through levers 26, 27 and plates 28, 29, open the clamp jaws 2-7 and allow a master sheet 16 to be inserted and placed on the cylinder 1; return springs (15) then close the jaws on the sheet. If a second sheet 31 is to be inserted, lever 23 is displaced axially on shaft 22 by means of lever 33 and is latched in this position so that when lever (17) is again operated, only roller 24 is contacted, and hence only clamp jaws 4-7 are opened, while jaws 2 and 3 remain closed on master sheet 16.
