Abstract
115,001. Goss Printing Press Co., (Goss Printing Press Co.). Dec. 27, 1917. Inking-apparatus.-Relates to means for driving an ink-supply roller of a printing-press from a source independent of the press, and means controlled by the speed of the press for varying the speed, so that the roller is driven at lower speed relatively to that of the press as the speed of the press is increased; a spraying-device for supplying the roller with ink is described. As shown, the ink drum 11 is inked by a messenger roller 13 from a supply roller 12 on to which the ink is sprayed from a reservoir 18 through nozzles 14, pipe 15, and valve 19 by means of a force pump 16 in the reservoir driven by a shaft 17. The roller 12 is driven by bevel gear 27, 29, shaft 3) and worm gear 31, 32 from an electric motor 34. This motor is controlled by a rheostat 35 which is set to drive the motor at a comparatively high speed when the press is at rest. The arm 36 of the rheostat is operated by a governor 37 on a shaft 38 geared to the press, and when the press is driven, and as its speed increases, the arm 36 is moved to increase also the speed of the motor 34 and the roller 12, but to a less extent than the increase of the speed of the press. The speed of the roller 12 therefore is less relatively to the speed of the press when the press is running at high speed. The ink on the roller 12 is regulated by a blade 21 adjustable by a number of screws 22, and surplus ink removed by the blade falls into a trough 23 and passes back to the reservoir 18 through a pipe 24 and strainer 25. A scraper blade 26 removes lint &c. from the roller 12.
