Abstract

[Also in Division F4] For varying the speed at which an article, e.g. a basket 17, is conveyed by a walking beam type conveyer, the basket is rotated through 90 degrees, Figs. 4, 5, or is provided with adjustable lateral supports 18, Fig. 6. The basket is supported on stationary rails 7 (not shown in Figs. 4, 5) and the level at which movable beams 10 come into contact with the basket is varied as indicated in Figs. 4, 5. In Fig. 6, by adjusting the supports 18, the height at which the basket is supported on the rails 7 is varied. Both these forms of variation permit a distance a, Fig. 1, over which an article is conveyed during each revolution of a crank 8 to be altered. Accordingly the article's speed is varied. A cooling chamber 1 contains ventilators 5 which force air through heat exchangers 6 and the conveyer system, Fig. 2 (not shown), the conveyer framework being enclosed by removable plating provided with inspection windows. Products to be treated, e.g. packs of icecream, or baskets containing the products, are fed via shoots 12 and self-closing trap doors 13 on to the rails 7. The products are discharged by similar means 14, 15. The cooling units may be replaced by heating or sterilization devices.
