Abstract

1,149,778. Pigmented polymer compositions; polymeric phthalocyanines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 30 Oct., 1967 [21 Oct., 1966; 9 March, 1967], Nos. 47163/66 and 11087/67. Addition to 978,242. Headings C3P and C3R. [Also in Division C4] In the solid pigment composition of Specification 978,242 (see below) the pigmentary constituent consists of a phthalocyanine pigment and a basic phthalocyanine derivative, the combination of which constitutes at least 60% by weight of the composition. In Example 3 the composition comprises copper monochlorophthalocyanine, a polymeric copper phthalocyanine (see below), the potassium salt of a resin dimer acid, and a vinyl toluene/n-butyl methacrylate copolymer latex. In Example 7 it comprises copper phthalocyanine, the phthalocyanine derivative of Example 3, and a solution of a rosin-modified cresol/formaldehyde resin in aqueous caustic potash, and in Example 11 the composition of Example 7 additionally comprises copper monochlorophthalocyanine. Example 3 is also repeated replacing the specified copolymer by a copolymer of vinyl toluene with isobutyl methacrylate or di-n-butyl fumarate, or by polyisobutyl methacrylate or polyvinyltoluene. Specification 978,242 claims a solid pigment composition for pigmentation of an organic material, said composition comprising a finely divided organic or carbon black pigment and a resinous substance which is soluble to the extent of at least 5% by weight in the organic material, the composition being characterized in that it contains at least 60% by weight of pigment and that the volume concentration when under a compressive pressure of 20 lbs per sq. inch is less than 18% in the case of an organic pigment. In Example 1 a polymer is prepared from copper tris (chloromethyl) phthalocyanine and copper tris(isopropylaminomethyl)phthalocyanine in methyl isobutyl ketone.
