Abstract
1,149,734. Printing plates. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 26 July, 1966 [3 Jan., 1966], No. 33504/66. Heading B6C. A printing plate, which may be employed for letterpress or offset printing, comprises a layer 14 of easily etched magnesium alloy and a supporting layer 12 of aluminium or aluminium alloy. If the plate is to be wrapped around a cylinder 22, the layer 14 is etched away at the ends as shown, so that the strain at the bends 28 is taken wholly by the layer 12. The magnesium alloy includes manganese, zinc, silicon, copper, nickel and iron, and in one of the two alloys specified, includes also aluminium and cadmium. Commercially pure aluminium may be used for the layer 12 but if an alloy is employed it may include manganese, silicon, iron, copper and zinc. The magnesium alloy comprises approximately 60% of the plate thickness. After etching, the plate may be chrome-plated.
