A flanged curtain-supporting rod a, which is raised and lowered bodily relatively to a pelmet n by operating cords j, j<SP>1</SP>, j<SP>2</SP>, is releasably retained in raised position, pressed against an abutment c in the pelmet, by engagement of a flange a<SP>1</SP> by a cam b. The cam b and a weight d, which biases the cam to rodretaining position, are carried by a roller f which is rotatable on an axis parallel to and spaced from the rod a. The weight is rotatable by a cord i to rotate the cam to raise the rod until the cam is disengaged therefrom and the rail can be lowered by the cords j, j<SP>1</SP>, j<SP>2</SP>, and on release of the cord i automatically returns the disengaged cam to a position in which it re-engages the flange when the rod is raised by the cords.
