Abstract
1,149,605. Photo-mechanical printing surfaces. POLYCHROME CORP. March 17, 1968 [March 17, 1967], No. 12200/68. Heading G2M. [Also in Division H1] An electro-photographic element suitable for conversion into a planographic printing plate comprises a conductive base having two photoconductive coatings thereon both containing powdered zinc oxide in a resin binder. After exposure electro-photographically to an image, the latent image is developed with an oleophilic developer and the non-image areas etched to give a hydrophilic surface by treatment with phosphates, ferrocyanides, ferricyanides, cobalticyanides, vanadates, molybdates, tungstates, tartrates, oxalates, tannates or citrates. In the examples an aqueous mixture of mono- and di-ammonium phosphate, glacial acetic acid, sodium ferrocyanide, phosphoric acid and gum arabic is used to etch the element.
