Abstract
1,149,579. Forming packages. NATIONAL DAIRY PRODUCTS CORP. 13 Dec., 1967, No. 56665/67. Heading B8C. [Also in Division A2] Portion controlled food units are made by freezing a sheet of food material and forming in it grooves allowing the sheet to be broken into units. In the example given, a predetermined amount of material is placed in a flexible plastics bag, and after the bag has been evacuated and sealed, the package is flattened to a desired thickness and frozen. The grooves, or score lines, are then made by pressing the package between shaped dies. Ribs on the dies are preferably rounded to avoid cutting the bag, or alternatively one rib may be sharpened so that one wall of the bag is severed and the food units can easily be removed. Examples of food materials given are sandwich fillings, meat and ice cream.
