Abstract

1,128,525. Wrapping refrigerated confections. MIDLAND COUNTIES DAIRY Ltd. 5 Dec., 1966 [8 Dec., 1965], No. 51968/65. Heading B8C. [Also in Division F4] Molten ice cream or similar confections are delivered directly into pockets moulded in a heated thermoplastic wrapping web where they are refrigerated so that they set before the web is cut to form packages. A cover web may be heat sealed over the filled pockets to form covers which are then pierced so that a stick can be inserted before the confection sets. Refrigeration may be by spraying the filled compartments with liquid nitrogen, by blowing cool air, or by passing the filled pockets through cooled channels or through a bath of liquid nitrogen. The web is first heated and the pockets then formed by male and female dies which may be disposed so that rows of pockets are formed across the web. The rows may be finally cut from the web as a unit, or the filled pockets may be delivered singly. The wrapping material may be polystyrene or paper backed by aluminium foil.
