Abstract

1,148,808. Coating wires. MANUFACTURE DE FILS ISOLES TAURUS. 14 Dec., 1966 [7 Jan., 1966], No. 55956/66. Heading D1L. A die 17 for use in a closed casing for coating wire with a liquid which is caused to flow through the interior of the casing under pressure comprises a cylindrical element engaged in a cylindrical housing in the base 12 of the apparatus, a spring 26 being positioned beneath the die to push the die against the cover 18 of the apparatus. A plurality of such dies are provided and each die has a plane upper face 28 provided with a channel 30 formed with a U-shaped notch 31 for the passage of the wire. Positioning pins 32 engaging in vertical slots 33 in base 12 align the notches 31 with grooves 21, 22 and 23 in which the wire lies. Coating liquid arrives through conduit 36 leading to a tank 13 in base 12 and flows out freely through passage 37, channel 38 and outlet conduit 39. Each wire enters through a groove 23, passes between felt elements 15 impregnated with liquid, is further coated in passing through tank 13 and passes out through notch 31 which accurately controls the thickness of coating. The wire then passes through a polymerization oven and, if necessary, returns to the apparatus for another coating operation to pass through the next die having a suitable size U-shaped notch 31. The base and cover are held together in fluid tight manner apart from at the inlet and outlet grooves by means of pins 27. The liquid is caused to circulate through the apparatus, a constant level liquid containing tank, and a filter by means of a pump, and is fed with solvent under the control of a viscosimeter. In an alternative embodiment a further set of similar dies replaces the felt elements.
