In a cyclic system for continuously producing sodium sulphate crystals of substantially uniform size involving supersaturation by evaporation or cooling, the supersaturated solution passes down a tube 7 and up around the tube in a crystallization vessel 8 having walls 8 which in cross-section (ignoring the top section) approximate to an invented hyperbolic curve of formula x<SP>12</SP>y=1. As shown in Fig. 3, the upward flow from tube 7, and consequently the crystal size, may be varied by vertically moving the position of a partial obstruction 21.
