Abstract
1,147,372. 13-Phenyl-gonadienes. MERCK & CO. Inc. 8 June, 1966 [15 June, 1965], No. 46930/68. Divided out of 1,147,371. Heading C2U. Novel compounds of the formula (wherein R 1 is H or an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted, an acyl or an aralkyl radical of at most 8 carbon atoms and Y is H or a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical of at most 3 carbon atoms) are prepared by reacting the corresponding 17α - Y - 17# - hydroxy - 13 - phenyl - gon - 5(10) - en - 3 - ones with bromine in pyridine or with pyridine hydrobromide perbromide, and, when 17-ethers or -esters are required, etherifying or esterifying the 17#-ols. The 13-phenylgonadienes have anti-androgenic activity and may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions for oral or parenteral administration with suitable carriers.
