One or other of levers 14, 15, when pivoted by the associated cam 18, 19, acts on thrust plate 8b to move feed element 8a in the forward direction, element 8a returning by the action of spring 12, and cams 18, 19 are so arranged with respect to cam 3 which raises and lowers element 8a that the resultant feed direction depends on which one of levers 14, 15 is latched in an inoperative position by armature 24 of bistable solenoid 23. Feed may be reversed when an error is sensed after a punching operation.
