Abstract

1,146,958. Safety harness. W. F. COENEN. 9 May, 1967, No. 21409/67. Heading A3V. A safety belt for a motor vehicle, aircraft &c. is folded upon itself and the folded portion enclosed in a sleeve 2 with intermediate members 5 between the plies which collapse when sudden tension is applied to the belt. The sleeve is preferably made of aluminium or synthetic plastics with end walls 4 with slots for the belt. In an alternative embodiment rollers (6), Fig. 2a (not shown), mounted on a collapsable brace (7) are positioned between the folds of the belt. Alternatively only one roller is used and the belt passes round the brace. The sleeve and/or the members 5 may be corrugated or perforated to increase the friction between the belt and the sleeve to further absorb the shock. The sleeve and the intermediate members may be a one-piece synthetic plastics unit.
