Abstract

1,146,774. Shaping coils. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. 16 Feb., 1967 [16 Feb., 1966], No. 7390/67. Heading B3A. A gripping device for holding the ends of winding blanks in a machine for shaping the windings of electrical machines comprises a fixed part 1 secured to a support 2 having a nose 5 defining a plane surface bearing on one of the narrow sides of the winding blank 4. Two parallel jaws 11, 12 engage the blank along its two wide sides and are part of two slidable L-shaped arms 9, 10 respectively, which arms are biased by springs 18, 17 respectively, against a vertically adjustable wedge-shaped member 15. The jaws 11, 12 are opened by raising support part 8 upon which the arms 9, 10 are free to slide as they are moved by the wedge against the action of their springs. A block 26 is positioned between the jaws and engages the other narrow side of the blank. The part 8 is moved by a linkage 21, 22 by means of a rod 25 of a pivoted piston-cylinder assembly (not shown). Since the pivot points of the links 21, 22 are in a straight line when the piston-rod 25 is fully extended, they are in a locked position when the winding blank is held in the device. The vertical positions of the wedge 15 and the block 25 are adjustable to suit the size of the winding blank being shaped.
