Abstract

1,146,475. Transformers. SMIT NIJMEGEN ELECTROTECHNISCHE FABRIEKEN N.V. 10 June, 1966 [22 June, 1965], No. 26033/66. Heading HIT. Individually insulated conductors grouped within a further, common, layer of insulation are used to fabricate a plurality of axially aligned disc coils, each of which contains a plurality of interwound conductors, and direct connections are made from coil to coil, but not between conductors of one coil, so as to establish a current path which passes in series through conductors of at least two coils and after passing through a conductor of one coil passes through a second coil before passing through a further conductor of the first coil, or through a coil on the side of the first coil remote from the second coil. The disc coils may be grouped in interconnected pairs so that the current path performs flat outward spirals in one of each pair and inward spirals in the other. In Fig. 3 the largest surge voltage which can arise between adjacent conductors applied together is eight times that which appears in a single turn and the insulation of the individual conductors is adequate to deal with this. Larger voltages between different turns of different conductors in the same coil, such as between 2 and 17, or between conductors of adjacent coils, such as between 1 and 24 or between 5 and 44, are guarded against by the common insulation..
