Circulating or passing fluids through materials. -In apparatus for dyeing textile fibres, the material is compressed in a chamber 39 between plates 15, 17 provided with angular corrugations 36, Fig. 5, having slotted sides, and dye-liquor is forced upwards by a pump 26 through a tapering shell 12 containing an upwardly and downwardly tapered member 42, to equalize the pressure, and then through the material. The liquor passes by an overflow pipe 21 to a tank 22 and is returned to the pump. A sample-dyeing vessel 48, similar and proportionate to the main apparatus, is connected to a conduit 47 in the wall of the dyeing- chamber 39. After dyeing, the goods are washed by admitting water to the pump through a valve 33 and connecting the overflow pipe 21 to a drain. In a modification, the upper edges of the corrugations 36 are serrated.
