[Also in Division C5] Acetylene is produced by introducing methane alone through pipe 4 into the chamber of a plasmatron 1 having a water-cooled anode 5 and a cathode 6. Additional methane may be introduced through pipe 12, and the reaction products are cooled by water streaming through openings 13 of a reservoir 14 and by water flowing between the double walls of reactor 3.
