Abstract

Process for separating hydrogen from steam and nitrogen from air by combining the effect of solid electrolyte cells separating oxygen from steam with the effect of solid electrolyte cells supplying energy with atmospheric oxygen conversion and nitrogen production. Pref. the cells are placed in series, alternate groups parallel to each other decomposing steam and air respectively. The ratio of steam cells to air cells is 1-5/6 and the gas necessary for the anodes of both types of cell is produced in a reaction chamber inside the installation. The hydrogen and nitrogen produced are used collectively in the synthesis of ammonia, and separately in synthesis and inert gas prodn. etc.
