Hydrogen is removed from impure chlorine gas by subjecting the chlorine-hydrogen gas mixture to ionizing radiation. The hydrogen chloride formed may be removed by scrubbing. The radiation may be beta radiation such as from Sr<SP>90</SP> or gamma radiation such as from Co<SP>60</SP>.
