Abstract

1,145,995. Zeolites Y, B and C. PETER SPENCE & SONS Ltd. 22 March, 1966 [9 April, 1965; 10 Nov., 1965], Nos. 15104/65 and 47616/65. Heading C1A. Zeolite Y having a SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 ratio between 3 and 6À15 is made by thoroughly mixing an aqueous solution of a soluble aluminium component and a siliceous component at least part of which is a metasilicate of minimum activity "10 units" to give a reactant mixture having oxide mole ratios within the ranges Na 2 O/SiO 2 SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 H 2 O/Na 2 O 0À28 -0À30 8-10 20- 70 0À30 -0À31 8-12 20- 70 0À31 -0À32 8-14 20- 70 0À32 -0À335 8-16 12- 90 0À335-0À4 7-40 12-120 0À4 -1À0 5-50 12-120 and heating this with agitation at 20-120‹ C. until the crystalline zeolite is formed. The activity of the silicate is an arbitrary figure ranging from 0 to 1000 and higher and is based upon the yield of Zeolite X obtained in test reactions in which the reaction mixture has the oxide mole ratios SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 = 3À85, Na 2 O/SiO 2 = 1À34, H 2 O/Na 2 O = 47À00. The soluble aluminium compound may be sodium aluminate or aluminium sulphate, the active siliceous component may be sodium metasilicate, inactive siliceous materials may be water-glass, colloidal or highly dispersed silica, fume silica or amorphous silica. Comparative examples also disclose the preparation of Zeolites B and C using metasilicate of activity zero.
