Abstract

1,144,715. Load-handling pallets. HAY'S INTERNATIONAL SERVICES BIRMING- HAM Ltd. 9 Feb., 1968 [4 March, 1967; 9 June, 1967], Nos. 10333/67 and 26627/67. Heading B8H. Fig. 1 shows an expendable pallet with a platform composed of corrugated fibre-board and comprising an outer sleeve or casing 1 of rectangular cross-section reinforced by separate interior inserts 3, 4. The two spaced-apart inserts 3 are open-ended tubes each formed from a sheet of fibre-board folded to form a doublethickness base 3<SP>1</SP>, the overlaps being suitably fastened together. The open ends of the inserts 3 constitute, at their opposite ends, open sockets for the forks of a fork-lift truck. The three bearer inserts 4 are fitted tightly into the spaces on either side of and between the inserts 3. Each insert 4 is made by folding a sheet of corrugated fibre-board to give a tube reinforced internally by an M-shaped bracing. The number of inserts 4 may vary e.g. there may be more than three, or only one (between the inserts 3). Adjacent walls of all the inserts and outer sleeve may be fastened together, at least at their outer ends. Fig. 7 is a cross-section of a modification of the pallet shown in Fig. 1 wherein the ends of the bearer inserts 4 are reinforced by expanded polyurethane foam 12<SP>1</SP>, foamed in situ, plugs 15 being first inserted and temporary stoppers being used until the foam is rigid.
