In a contact and guide tube for a consumable electrode arc welding torch and having spaced apertured wear-resistant elements 3 housed in a nozzle-like body 1, transverse apertures 6 are provided in the body 1 adjacent the guide elements 3 to allow the escape of material abraded from the electrode. The body 1 may be cylindrical or tapered and the elements 3 may be spaced by distance pieces 4 or pressfitted in a stepped bore, respectively. In a gas shielded torch part of the gas may be passed through the body 1 and the apertures 4. Straightening.-The elements 3 may be transversely adjustable by screw devices to locations in which they straighten an electrode.
