Abstract
1,144,437. Automatic guns. BOFORS A.B. 4 May, 1966 [6 May, 1965], No. 19779/66. Heading F3C. An automatic gun is provided with a magazine 1 which has two compartments being mounted one on each side of the vertical plane passing through the gun barrel 5. Cartridges 2a, 2b from the compartments are fed by reciprocating feeder frames 20a, 20b to an outlet port 3 whence the cartridges are fed on to a loading bridge 4. The loading bridge is supported on two pairs of pivoted parallel linkages such that the loading bridge is swung from a cartridge loading position adjacent the outlet part 3 to a cartridge ramming position adjacent the breech block 13 of the gun. The linkages are driven by means of reciprocating motors 16, the driving shaft 15 of one being connected through gearing 50, 51, 52 and a unidirectional coupling 30 to a shaft 28 which, through linkages 27a, 27b, 26a, 26b, 23a, 23b and 25a (25b, Fig. 2, not shown) drives the feeder frames 20a, 20b. The frames 20a, 20b are driven such that one is moving towards the cartridge feeding position while the other is moving away from this position. The unidirectional coupling 30 comprises a coupling component (40) connected to the gearing 50 and a disc connected through a spiral spring and a further disc to the shaft 28 (Figs. 6 to 9, not shown). Through a system of detents and pawls the shaft 28 is only driven through 180 degrees on a rotation of the coupling component through over 180 degrees.
