Abstract

1,143,961. Controlling clutches; belt gearing. QUALCAST Ltd. 22 June, 1966 [30 July, 1965], No. 32785/65. Headings F2L and F2Q. [Also in Division A1] A disengageable belt drive for a motor lawn mower comprises an endless belt 12 round a driving pulley 10 and a driven pulley 11, a jockey pulley 13, rotatably mounted on a pivotally mounted arm 14 having an overcentre spring 16, being movable by a manual control rod 17 between a first position in which it tensions the belt to transmit the drive, and a second position in which the belt is slack and slips over one or both of said pulleys. In the second position, in which the arm 14 rests against a stop 21, two pins 22, 23 restrain the belt so that it is maintained clear of the driving pulley 10. The drive is between the motor and the cutting cylinder of the mower, and a similar belt drive, or alternatively a chain drive with a friction or positive clutch may be provided between the cutting cylinder and the rear ground roller.
