Apparatus for donning and doffing bobbins to and from textile machines comprises a conveyor formed with a number of pockets, a pegboard adjacent a lateral edge of the conveyor, the pegs on which are alined with the pockets, means to rotate the peg-board, and means to push the empty bobbins from the pockets on to the pegs. The bobbins so arranged on the peg-board may be transferred to the machine by grippers. Such grippers may also transfer filled bobbins from the machine to the pegboard, a plate associated with the peg-board acting when the board is rotated, to remove the filled bobbins from the pegs and transfer them to the pockets. In Fig. 1, bobbins in pockets on a conveyor 1 are brought opposite pegs 5 on a board 4, when the conveyor is stopped by a limit switch, and pushed on to the pegs by a pusher 6, the bobbins extending beyond the edge of the conveyor towards the pusher. The board is now rotated through a right angle; the pegs are equal in number and spacing to the spindles to be donned and to grippers (7, Fig. 2, not shown), which are lowered on to the bobbins to transfer them to a spindle. When the apparatus is to be used for collecting filled bobbins, a pivoted plate 8, Fig. 3 is lowered over the board 4 and the filled bobbins transferred to the pegs which extend through slots 10 in the plate by the grippers. The board is now rotated through a right angle, so that the bobbins are removed from the pegs to the pockets in the conveyor owing to the downwardly curved shape of the part of the plate when the slots are situated.
