Abstract

1,143,438. #<SP>1'3'5(10)</SP>-Steroids. H. SMITH. 3 June, 1966 [3 March, 1965], No. 24557/66. Divided out of 1,103,205. Addition to 1,041,277. Heading C2U. Novel steroids of the structure (wherein one R is C 1-6 alkyl and the other is H; R<SP>1</SP> is C 2-4 alkyl; R<SP>2</SP> is H, alkyl or acyl; R<SP>3</SP> is trans to R<SP>1</SP> and is alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, substituted or unsubstituted; and the group R<SP>1</SP> and the hydrogen atoms at the tertiary carbon atoms in ring C are in the trans-antitrans configuration) are prepared from the corresponding 17-ketones and organometallic compounds containing R<SP>3</SP>. In the products, when R<SP>3</SP> is unsaturated it may subsequently be hydrogenated to a group of lesser or no unsaturation. Also, standard hydrolyses, esterifications and etherifications may be effected in the 3-substituent. (Œ) 13# - n - Propyl - 3 - methoxy - 6 - mefhylgona - 1,3,5(10) - trien - 17 - one is prepared by reacting 6 - m - methoxyphenyl - hept - 1 - en - 3- one with 2-n propylcyclopentane- 1,3 -dione and reacting the product with ethylene glycol to give (Œ)13# - n -propyl - 17,17 - ethylenedioxy-3- methoxy - 6 - methylgona - 1,3,5(10),8,14 - pentaene, hydrogenating this to the 1,3,5(10),8- tetraene, reducing this to the ] ,3,5(10)-triene and hydrolysing this.
