Abstract

1,143,149. Surgical heating appliance. A. MERZ. 7 Dec., 1967 [8 Dec., 1966], No. 55658/67. Heading A5R. A veterinary appliance for treatment of the vagina comprises a handle 2 having a flange 6 at one end, there being a smoothsurfaced tube 1 secured to the flange and containing an electric heating element controlled by a thermostat 4. As shown, for applying heat to the vagina of a cow, the appliance is provided with a tube 1 of an electrically insulating, flexible, and acid-resistant plastics material which is removably secured to the handle 2 and flange 6 such that the tube may be replaced by a tube of different size. The heating element 5 comprises a plurality of heating stages and the appliance may include a switch for selecting the heating stages to be used. The electric heating current may be obtained from the mains supply through a 220-12 volt transformer: The appliance may be used while administering medicament and apertures 7 in the flange allow the appliance to be secured to the animal's body.
