Abstract
1,142,525. Drying timber. HARDWOOD DRYING & MFG. CO. 16 May, 1966, No. 21554/66. Heading F4G. A process of drying hardwood timber 17, 18 comprises stacking in an enclosure through which air is circulated by fans 9 above the stacks so as to move downwardly therethrough to be deflected upwardly from moisture condensing and removal means under the timber and passing hot air from a furnace (5) into the enclosure through an apertured central longitudinal channel 6 in the floor between the stacks so as to mix and blend with the existing air in the enclosure before contact with the timber. The condensing means may comprise water cooled pipes or, as shown, a layer of crushed stone 12, e.g. limestone, on a layer 11 of loose dirt over an earth floor 10 having drain pipes 16. The enclosure is not normally vented to atmosphere and a portion of air is recirculated through a duct to a fan (8) which forces the air flow through the channel 6.
