In a fuel injection pump having a cam actuated plunger 13 reciprocating in a sleeve 12 the wall of the pump body 10, opposite port 14 through which excess fuel is spilled from the pumping chamber, is protected by a hardened steel disc 17 mounted on a spigot 18. The axis of the spigot 18 may be offset from the axis of the port 14 in order that the portion of the disc 17 on which the fuel impinges may be adjusted. The face of the disc may be conical or hemispherical.
