Abstract

1,142,454. Curing epoxy resins. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 12 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 46615/67. Heading C3B. A curable composition comprises an epoxy resin, a curing quantity of dicyandiamide (e.g. 5-20 parts by wt. per 100 parts epoxy resin), and from 0À01 to 1 part by wt. per part of dicyandiamide of a tetralkyl guanidine in which the alkyl substituents are independently ethyl or methyl, e.g. tetraethyl guanidine or tetramethyl guanidine. The shelf life of the compositions may be increased, e.g. from 2 to 7 days by including from 0À1 to 1 part of benzoic, o-chlorobenzoic or p-chlorobenzoic acid per part of tetraalkylguanidine. The composition may be cured at elevated temperature, e.g. at 140‹ C. Fillers may be present, e.g. SiO 2 or aluminium powder.
