Abstract

1,208,935. Curing epoxy resins. RUHRCHEMIE A.G. 1 July, 1968 [8 July, 1967], No. 31392/68. Heading C3B. Polyepoxides are cured using as curing agent a tetrakis-(dimethylaminoalkoxy) silane Si[OC n H 2n N(CH 3 ) 2 ] 4 in which n is an integer, preferably from 2 to 8. The silane may be used at 0.5 to 10% by wt. of the epoxy compound. Specific silanes used in the examples to cure diglycidyl ethers of bisphenol A are: tetrakis - (N,N - dimethylaminoethoxy) - silane; tetrakis - (N,N - dimethylaminopropoxy) - silane; and tetrakis - (N,N - 2,2 - tetramethylaminopropoxy).silane. Curing may take place at elevated temperature, e.g. at 40‹ C for 7 to 8 hours to gel the composition, followed by hardening for 3 hours at 130‹ C.
