Abstract

1,141,669. Rotorcraft cabin ejection. W. N. STEWART. 16 Oct., 1967, No. 46959/67. Headings B7G and B7W. A rotorcraft has a cabin portion 12, containing seats 13, normally secured to a main fuselage portion 11 carrying a rotor 14 which overlies both portions, and a horizontal track 17, the cabin portion having a first means 20 to catapult the portion 12 forward clear of portion 11 and the rotor, and a second means, comprising at least one rocket 21, to then lift the cabin portion to a height sufficient for a parachute, which may be opened by a drogue parachute 25, to safely land the cabin portion (and its occupants). The track 17 may comprise two parallel rails between which the catapult means 20 is positioned. The cabin portion 12 may have a pair of stabilizing fins 27 which are extended when the cabin portion is ejected.
