Abstract

1,141,427. Polyamide fibres. MARTIN PROCESSING CO. Inc. 7 March, 1967 [7 March, 1966], No. 10709/67. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] The dyeing properties of polyamide fibres are enhanced by impregnation of the fibres for less than 3 seconds with a solution or suspension of benzyl alcohol in a solvent which is volatile at a temperature below the boiling point of benzyl alcohol, the pH of the solution or suspension being between 3 and 7, the solution or suspension in excess of that absorbed by the fibres then being removed in a conventional manner, and the fibres heated to a temperature between the boiling point of the solvent and that of benzyl alcohol. The fibres containing benzyl alcohol may then be dyed, or may be stored for future use. Two colour effects may be obtained by impregnating the material in pre-selected areas with solutions containing differing amounts of benzyl alcohol, or the solutions or suspensions may contain one or more dye resist agents thus enabling multicolour effects to be produced. The process may be applied to polyamide material in fabric or film form.
