Abstract

1,141,359. Anhydrous aluminium chloride. BADISCRE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 27 May, 1966 [28 May, 1965], No. 23885/66. Heading C1A. Anhydrous AlCl 3 is produced by reacting finely divided alumina, finely divided carbon of ash content not more than 2À5% by weight and chlorine at 450-600‹ C. in a fluidized bed. Carbon obtained by retrochemical reactions such as oil cracking is suitable. The solid reactants are preferably added in the form of a mixture containing 15-35% by wt. carbon, the alumina and the carbon having about the same particle size.
