Abstract

114,132. Miles, C. Jan. 17, 1918. Clutches, friction.-One member of a, clutch has a flanged bearing sleeve d screwing into a ring e mounted on an extension of the plummer block b through which the driven shaft c passes. The clutch comprises radially moving blocks m, n, mounted on right and left-handed screw-threads on radial shafts fixed to one part and engaging both sides of a cylindrical flange g on the other part. It is operated by links p connected at one end to a plate q sliding on a central shaft, and at the other end to arms o on the shafts j. Axial movement of the plate causes the shafts to rotate and the blocks m, n to approach or recede. For the purpose of adjustment, the arms o are mounted on polygonal portions of the shafts j.
