Abstract

1,141,232. Control of two motors. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 1 Feb., 1967 [2 Feb., 1966], No. 4877/67. Heading H2J. A programming device for a crane comprises cam-shaft controllers which are driven in accordance with the slewing and luffing movements respectively of a load-arm whereby the speeds of the slewing and luffing motors are controlled in accordance with angular positions of the arm. When the load has been hoisted, automatic control is initiated by closing switch 40 in circuit with field windings 21, 39, of Ward Leonard generators which supply the luffing and slewing motors respectively. The direction of slew is selected by closing switch 31, the load being driven along a chosen path and at a chosen speed to a point where it is to be lowered. At first, switch 22 is open to de-energize the luffing motor, the slewing motor running at maximum speed since limit switches 35-38 are closed. After the arm has slewed through 15 degrees, switch 22 closes so that the luffing motor operates at low speed since resistors 18- 20 are in circuit. When the arm has slewed through 25 degrees, switches 26, 29 close to increase the luffing speed, whilst switch 37 opens to reduce the slewing speed. Thereafter the luffing speed is increased in stages and the slewing speed is reduced until the maximum slewing angle is reached whereupon switch 38 opens to stop the slewing motor. When the maximum luffing distance has been reached, switch 25 opens to stop the luffing motor at the final position of the load. Switches 23, 24, open at set luffing distances so that the luffing movement does not exceed the maximum for the respective slewing angle. Some of the cams may be adjustable for setting up different programmes. In modification the crane is provided with A.C. motors, thyristor-fed D.C. motors, or hydraulic motors. Continuous control by means of a potentiometer or other electric position indicator may be provided.
