933,098. Cam-operated switches; retractive switches; activation of switches. TELEMECANIQUE ELECTRIQUE. Feb. 8 1961, [May 24, 1960], No. 4765/61. Class 38 (5). In a switch operable by the passage of a moving body hitting an arm extending radially from a shaft having a switch actuating cam and an indexing arrangement, the cam is interchangeably mounted and the indexing arrangement has two or more profiles giving different numbers of selected positions, the profiles being selectively engaged with a detent. The shaft 5 carries a cylinder 10 with two profiles 11, 12, the former being as in Fig. 4 with four notches 13, and the latter having two notches as shown in Fig. 5. The selected profile co-operates with detent balls in housings 23, 24. The cam 26 operates switches 27, 28 via balls 30 . . . 33 in guides 34, 35. The shaft 5 may carry, as shown, four arms 7 which are successively engaged by articles, and in this case the profile 11 is used. Alternatively, a single arm carrying a roller may be used (Fig. 8, not shown) with profile 12, the detent balls co-operating with the profile to centre the arm in a vertical position to which it is automatically returned. The arm may be engaged by moving articles on a conveyer, by part of a crane or lifting bridge to control it, or may be operated by a float in a reservoir.
