A sliding door assembly comprises a pair of doors 1 each movable transversely to its sliding direction and each carrying pairs of rollers 3 and guides 7 which engage (when the door is closed) guides 6b, 6c on linked pairs of shafts 5 pivoted at 5<SP>1</SP> to a railway wagon, and which are moved, when the door is moved transversely away from the side of the wagon, by rotation of the shafts by a lever 8, on the guides 6b, 6c, the guides 6a of the other (closed) door 1 filling the gaps between fixed bars 4 along which the opening door is slid to overlap the closed door.
