Novel compounds of the general formula in which R represents an alkyl or alkoxy group or a halogen atom are prepared by the interaction of 3,3<SP>1</SP>-diamino- 1, 1<SP>1</SP>-biadamantane and a compound of general formula p-R-C 6 R 4 -SO 2 NH.- COOX, wherein X represents a lower alkyl group, e.g. ethyl. 3,3<SP>1 </SP>- Diacetamido- 1,1<SP>1 </SP>- biadamantane, obtained by treating the 3,3<SP>1</SP>-dibromo compound with acetonitrile in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid, is hydrolysed in the presence of sodium hydroxide to 3,3<SP>1</SP>-diamino- 1,1<SP>1</SP>-biadamantane. Pharmaceutical preparations having hypoglycemic activity contain as active ingredient the above novel compounds and administration may be orally, e.g. in the form of dosage units such as capsules and tablets.
