Abstract

1,140,651. Compositions of terpolymers. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 3 May, 1967 [3 May, 1966], No. 20618/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions B2 and G2] A subbing composition comprises a copolymer of (a) 70 to 90 parts by weight of vinyl acetate, (b) 7 to 40 parts by weight of an alkyl acrylate, the alkyl portion of which has 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and (c) 3 to 30 parts by weight of itaconic, fumaric, acrylic or methacrylic acid, in an organic solvent or aqueous dispersion. In the examples, copolymers are prepared from vinyl acetate, methyl acrylate, itaconic acid, fumaric acid and ethyl acrylate using sodium lauryl sulphate, water, ammonium persulphate, and sodium metabisulphite. In Examples V and VI the composition is coagulated by treating with potassium nitrate solution and the polymer dissolved in acetone and methylene chloride. The compositions are used to coat substrates including photographic films.
