Abstract

1525870 Silicone coating composition SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 25 Oct 1976 [24 Oct 1975 4 Dec 1975] 44299/76 Heading C3T Compositions comprise (by weight) (i) 5 to 99 parts of the partial hydrolysis product of a tetralhexysilane (caculated as SiO 2 ) ; (ii) 100 parts of the partial hydrolysis product of RnSi(OR<SP>1</SP>) 4-n (R=C 1-6 hydrocarbyl, R<SP>1</SP>=C 1-4 alkyl, n= 1, 2 or 3; calculated as (iii) 5 to 200 parts of a copolymer of an alkyl acrylate and/or methacrylate and an hydroxyalkyl acrylate and/or methacrylate; (iv) a solvent; and optionally (v) up to 150 parts per 100 parts of (ii) of an etherified methylolmelamine. The compositions are useful for coating plastics, wood or metal objects to improve surface properties especially hardness, boiling water resistance and weatherability.
