Abstract

1,140,506. Adjustable back-rests for seats. GEBR. ISRINGHAUSEN. 3 March, 1966 [24 April, 1965], No. 9271/66. Heading A4J. A car seat back-rest 8, which is angularly adjustable by a seated occupant, is pivoted at 7 on a support 12 on which superposed L-shape members 2, 3 are independently pivoted at 14, the members having co-incident notches 16, 17, 18 for engagement with a pin 5 on the back-rest to retain the seat in adjusted position. The member 3 is fast with a handle 1 and has an arm 15 and a cam surface 24, forward movement of the handle raising the arm 15 to disengage from the pin and the cam surface urging the pin out of the notch 17 to a position 26 of the member 2. A spring 13 urges the member to snap engage with the pin in position 11 and on release of the handle the member 3 is spring-urged downwardly to coincide with the member 2 and lock the back-rest in adjusted position. The member 2 has a knob 21 passing through a slot 22 in the support 12 and a lug 4 to engage the member 3, forward movement of the knob 21 raising both members 2, 3 for backward adjustment of the back-rest by pressure of the user's back or for the projection 19 to pass over the pin 5, for the back-rest to be folded forwardly on to the seat.
