In a spray pistol for delivering plaster or like cementious materials or sand, marble, metallic particles or like granular materials, the spray material is introduced through a hopper connected to the top of a barrel 10, the outlet for the spray material being controlled by a spring-biased needle-like valve comprising an air jet tube 41 with a conical head 42 seating in a conical recess in a nozzle head 13, the air jet tube 41 being axially displaceable by a trigger (46), Figs. 1, 3 (not shown), connected thereto. The air jet tube is slidably mounted within a guide tube 26 slidably mounted within the barrel 10 and projects from the rearward end thereof. A plug (36), Figs. 1-3 (not shown), is mounted in the rearward end of the guide tube 26, the plug being screw-threaded to receive a union nut (37), Fig. 1 (not shown), incorporating a nipple (38) for connection to a compressed air hose. In operation, air flow is controlled at source, and the flow of spray material is controlled by the trigger (46); the plug (34) may act as a stop for the trigger, and the air jet tube 41 may be locked in place by a thumb screw (49), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown). The air may flow with the air jet tube in a position to close the spray material outlet, in order to purge the nozzle or to texture a plaster surface. By using a suitable form of hopper, the spray pistol may be used with the barrel vertical. A flexible seal 50 prevents spray material from entering the guide tube 26.
