Abstract
1,140,370. Glow discharge lamps. VAN DER HEEM N.V. 4 May, 1966 [8 Sept., 1965], No. 19621/66. Heading H1D. The anodes 2, 3 and cathodes 4 to 8 of a glow discharge numeral indicator tube are all connected through individual resistors 19 to 25 to a common star point which is not connected to any other part of the circuit. The anodes are selectively energized through switches 9 and 10 and the cathodes through switches 13 to 17. When a discharge is present e.g. between anode 2 and cathode 7 the resistors 19 and 24 constitute a voltage divider, thus maintaining the other electrodes at a potential such as to prevent spurious discharges. In the tube shown each cathode 4 to 8 carries two numerals, but the invention is applicable to a tube having one anode and ten cathodes each carrying one numeral.
