Abstract

1,140,266. Aircraft control handgrips. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. 10 May, 1967 [31 May, 1966], No. 24303/66. Heading B7G. A control handle 10 mounted on a control lever 12 for a helicopter, other aircraft, space vehicle simulator &c., comprises an arrangement of electrical switches 13, 14, 15, 26, 27 on a handgrip 11 variable by having any one of a variety of interchangeable switch housings 16 (which may comprise entire handgrips) each with one or more switches 26, 27 and mechanical and electrical connections 19 with the rest of the control lever 12. The connections 19 may be of the plug and socket type. The housing 16 may be secured to the handgrip 11 by a screw (25), Fig. 3 (not shown), through the handgrip screwed into a locating pin (23) on the handgrip. The switches 13, 14, 15, 26, 27 may be distinguishable by touch and may be illuminated. The switch housing 16 may extend over the fingers of an operator holding the handgrip 11 to provide several switches arranged in an arc, for operation by the operator's thumb. The control handle 10 may have a heating element to obviate the need for the operator to wear thick gloves, which may impede operation of the switches.
