Abstract

1,140,184. Epsilon-caprolactone. CHISSO CORP. 13 June, 1967, No. 27243/67. Heading C2C. Epsilon-caprolactone is obtained by heating oligomers and/or polyesters of #-caprolactone at 210‹ to 360‹ C. in the presence of a caustic alkali, an hydroxide of an alkaline earth metal, alkali metal, divalent metal, a cobalt or manganese salt of an organic acid or an oxide or chloride of a divalent metal as a catalyst. The yield of #-caprolactone may be increased by repeating the above treatment on the residue left after the removal of #-caprolactone.
