Abstract
1,139,868. Grinding wheels. CINCINNATI MILLING MACHINE CO. 18 May, 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 23264/67. Heading C4V. A grinding wheel comprises abrasive grains bonded by a vitrified bond, which wheel is impregnated with at least one amide of a diamine and a carboxylic acid and which amide melts at at least 225 F. The amide may be an N,N<SP>1</SP>- aliphatio or aromatic diamide of an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid. The amides may be prepared from alkylene diamines, e.g. ethylene diamine, propylene diamine, tetramethylene diamine, diethylene triamine, 1.6-hexane diamine; cycloaliphatic diamines e.g. piperazine, cyclohexyl bis 1,4-methyl diamine; aromatic diamines e.g. p-phenylene diamine, toluene diamines such as meta-toluene diamine, xylylene diamine such as metaxylylene diamine and methane diamine. The carboxylic acid may be azelaic, adipic, arachidic, capric, caproic, caprylic, behenic, cerotic, pelargonic and undecanoic. Other suitable, acids are specified. The abrasive materials may be aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, fused zirconia or mixtures of zirconia and alumina.
