Apparatus for producing guttering from extruded thermoplastic tube comprises cutting means 2 for cutting the tube longitudinally into two halves forming gutter sections, a separator 11 positioned adjacent the cutting means and in the plane of the cutting means so as to lie between and hold apart the cut edges of the sections, clamping means including a member (20) to lie between the sections for clamping them together so that their cut edges grip the member between them and do not overlap, and means to allow relative movement between the clamping means and cutting means. The cutting means may consist of a pair of circular saw blades 2 driven by motors 3 adjustable along a guide 4 on a carriage 7 by a screw 6, the carriage 7 being vertically adjustable along pillars 9 upstanding from a base 8 by a screw 10. The blades are disposed diametrically opposed of a guide sleeve 1 which is secured to the carriage and is formed with slots 5 through which the blades extend. Separator plates 11 are pivotably mounted on the sleeve to engage the slots cut into the tube by the blades, and the sleeve is formed with further slots 12 permitting the escape of swarf. The tubing is supplied from an extruder and is passed through cooling and annealing baths, a haul-off device, and an embossing device having heated rolls to the cutting apparatus, and from the latter to a transverse cutting device having a longitudinally movable carriage carrying the clamping means 13, saw 14 and a guide 15. The clamp comprises a block (17) formed with a recess (19) for the lower gutter sections and a plate (20) on pins (21) urged upwardly by springs (not shown). An upper clamping member (23) is disposed above the plate (20) and, when lowered, clamps the upper gutter section to the plate, which, in turn, clamps the lower gutter section in the recess (19) so that the carriage moves with the extruder and cut gutter sections which are cut to length by the saw blade (14). The severed sections of the guttering are supported in the guide (15) which has projections (24) for engaging between the gutter sections.
