Abstract

1,139,307. Continuous casting. MANNESMANN A.G. 16 March, 1966 [17 March, 1965], No. 11468/66. Heading B3F. A pair of rolls 1 are arranged at a level of a continuous casting at which its core 2 is still unsolidified, the diameter of each roll being at least ten times the thickness of the solidified wall 3 of the casting at that level. The height or length of a vertical or arc casting installation is thus reduced. A lower pair of rolls 5 have their axes at right angles to those of the first. The first rolls 1 deform the external dimensions of the casting as much as 20%. Instead of being cylindrical, the rolls may form a square- or round-sectioned casting.
